Food was great. Service was great. Outdoor seating had plenty of space between tables. - Thomas Garvey
It's my favorite sushi restaurant in Gainesville. Every appetitizer is delicious, unique, and I love that you cannot find them anywhere else. Same for the rolls! All of them taste great and aren't massive in size to where it doesnt fit in your mouth. That does not mean the rolls are stuffed to the max with fish. Love going there and trying new items. I recommend the octopus appetitizer and Haile roll. But everything is great so try it all!! - Jess Tran
The vibe and the food is simply amazing. Service was also great. They don't have a wide variety of japanese beer but the ones they have are really good. Prices are very reasonable. It is a wonderful place for a date. - Kevin Gonzalez
Prior to this I had only been to the Hunters crossing but was even more impressed at this location by the quality of the food and service. Came here for lunch ordered sushi and the teriyaki chicken bowl everything was great and so tasty. No wait and top customer service - Sara T.
In a town with a lot of sushi choices, Volcanic Sushi is a good choice.
The cut and creativity of the sushi choice here are good. The ginger dressing could us an overhaul, but the house salad is good. The large open outside patio is wonderful, and even when it is a little warm or too cold out, it is still a nice spot to sit outside and enjoy people, puppies, and food.
Another thing that makes Volcanic a good choice for sushi in Gainesville is the people who work there. This is a true "mom and pop" store, and they hire people and invest in them like adopting family. They have a really good eye for hiring.
If you are out in Haile Plantation and get a hankering for sushi, give Volcanic Sushi a whorl. Tell them Jeff and Alice sent ya! - Jeff C.
Our weekly go-to spot! For someone who grew up never eating seafood, Volcanic has taught me to have a special love for sushi. Our service has always been great! It is a smaller restaurant and a great spot to sit outside and relax. - Jenn H.
You absolutely cannot go wrong with the meal for 2! Such good food at an incredible price. The workers in this location are also top notch and so welcoming and sweet. - Sarah H.
Our go to sushi restaurant!!
Fresh food. Creative menu. Amazing ambiance. Could not be happier with this amazing place.
The only thing I wish they had was a cocktail menu, or at least more wine and sake options. However If that is my only "complaint" I can't say it is a problem. - Alexis S.
Fantastic food and service!!!! Best sushi around. Take out during COVID is a lifesaver. - Malu T.
Our first experience with Volcanic. I ordered the shrimp and lobster curry and the seafood was perfectly cooked and delicious. Roni ordered the duck and said it was perfect. We arrived about 5, well before things got busy, so service was quick and pleasant. Wait time for food was reasonable. Prices are on the high end side for oriental cuisine, but well worth it. We split the green tea cheesecake for dessert and it was uniquely flavorful. No complaints at all, and we will certainly return.
So this past Friday I went to Volcanic sushi to give them a shot, and to say I was not disappointed is understating the matter!
I got there at around 7pm (it was supposed to be a group dinner, but everyone else bailed... that wasn't going to stop me, though!) and things were a bit busy. There are only a couple of tables inside, and then about half a dozen tables outside in their little courtyard area. I actually sat at a little two-top just outside their fenced in area, as I hate taking up a huge table when I am alone. Inside there is also a proper sushi bar to sit at, but this was also fully seated. To add to the mayhem, there was also some sort of dinner gathering in the main courtyard area outside.
Regardless of the business of the situation, I was seated immediately at my little table with a menu, and water came out shortly thereafter. For an appetizer I ordered some spring rolls, then sat and perused the menu for a bit before deciding on a volcano roll and the red curry with chicken. When asked how spicy I wanted my curry on a scale of 1 to 10, I answered with my usual 12. No, really... make me cry. Consider it a challenge. My waitress, Ella, was able to take this kind of request in good grace, for which I am grateful. Yes, I know that dealing with requests like this are annoying, but she was a great sport with it.
The spring rolls came out, and they were decent, but there was a lot of garnish alongside them that was superfluous... keep things simple with your items, reduce the cost, and I am much happier!
After that came the volcano roll, and I was OK with it. I have had better volcano rolls (basically a California roll with baked seafood on top) around town, but it wasn't bad. I would explore some of the other rolls before going back to it.
So you have gotten this far, and are probably wondering why I am giving five stars... well, it is because of the curry. When it came out and I tasted it, it was amazing. They didn't win with my challene of making me cry (few restaurants have) but the flavor of this curry was absolutely spot on! They nailed it, and it made me very happy in my tummy region.
I will most certainly be returning to Volcanic in the future! - Jon A.
